Wines from Etna
Etna is Sicily's mountain vineyard: vines grown on volcanic slopes, sometimes very old, giving reds from Nerello Mascalese that are pale, perfumed and often compared to Burgundy. It's one of Italy's most fascinating regions and the wines live up to the setting.

About Etna
Etna is Italy's most unlikely fine wine region: vines on volcanic soil high on an active mountain, many of them ungrafted and very old, in a climate more Alpine than Mediterranean.
The reds from Nerello Mascalese are pale, perfumed and firm — the Burgundy comparison gets made constantly and is not entirely lazy. Carricante makes whites of remarkable tension. Very little is produced.
