At altitude on black basalt soils it produces something like a darker, warmer cousin of Burgundy: light in colour, with red cherry, dried herbs and a smoky mineral edge. Terrazze dell'Etna make a consistent and reliable version of the style, and Carusu is a good way into Etna Rosso without spending a fortune on the rarer single-contrade wines.
