Why Mark chose this

Marco sources the grapes for the ‘Pignatuni’ from an elderly grower with whom he has worked for over a decade. This is his 1er Cru equivalent, from bush vines in a stony plot at 670 metres above sea level that produce a rich and generous wine. The fruit for this wine comes from Contrada Pignatuni, in the township of Randazzo on the northern slope of Mount Etna, at an altitude of around 650 metres above sea level. The one-hectare vineyard is planted on very stony volcanic soils that are the result of the degradation of solid black volcanic rock. The vines range from 50–100 years old and are trained using traditional goblet and modified goblet systems. Yields are approximately three tonnes per hectare.
