Carricante Wines

Carricante is the white grape of Mount Etna, planted high on the volcano where cool nights let it ripen slowly and keep its naturally high acidity. The wines are taut and citrussy with a saline, faintly smoky mineral streak, closer in spirit to Chablis than to most southern Italian whites. Ours comes from Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo, whose Etna Bianco blends Carricante with a little Catarratto.
