Terrazze dell'Etna

Terrazze dell'Etna farms the ancient lava terraces on the north-western slopes of Etna, around the municipality of Randazzo, at elevations where nights are cool and the growing season extends well into autumn. The volcanic soils here are unlike anything found in the rest of Sicily: porous, mineral-rich and low in organic matter, giving wines a brightness and structure that is quite different from the island's warmer coastal zones.

The red wines are built on Nerello Mascalese, Etna's great indigenous grape, sometimes with Nerello Cappuccio blended in for a softer texture. Etna is one of the most talked-about wine regions of the last decade, and producers like this are a good reason why.
