About Tenuta di Passopisciaro
Etna, Italy
Passopisciaro was founded around the turn of the millennium by Andrea Franchetti, one of the visionaries who saw what Mount Etna's high, black-soiled slopes could give, and who helped spark the volcano's remarkable wine renaissance. The vineyards sit at serious altitude on the northern face, many planted with old Nerello Mascalese.
Passorosso is the estate's calling card: Nerello Mascalese from old vines across the mountain's contrade, pale in colour but intense in flavour, often compared to fine Burgundy with a volcanic accent. Etna at its most compelling.
