Specogna

Specogna is a family estate in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, the hilly wine country of northeast Italy that runs up towards the Slovenian border. The zone is well regarded for both white and red varieties, and Specogna farms a range of grapes across the area's characteristic mix of marl and sandstone soils.

Friuli Pinot Grigio from hillside sites like these is a different animal from the dilute versions produced on the plains further west. The variety here has genuine texture and character, made to sit with food rather than be consumed without it. The rest of the range reflects the same values: careful viticulture on hillside vineyards, and wines that show where they come from.
