About Prunus
Dão, Portugal
Prunus is a label from the Dão region of central Portugal, one of the country's most rewarding zones for indigenous varieties. The wines are blends of local grapes: the white built around Encruzado, Malvasia Fina, Bical, and Cereal Branco; the red led by Jaen with support from Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro Preto, and Touriga Nacional.
Dão makes some of Portugal's most food-friendly wines, and the grape variety selection here reflects the region's character. Encruzado in particular is worth knowing: fresh, textured, and genuinely distinctive, it forms the backbone of a white that is more interesting than the price tends to suggest. Both colours are honest and well priced.
