Massolino Barbaresco Albesani 2020
£99.95
Why Mark chose this
Massolino is best known for their Barolo, but their Barbaresco from the Albesani cru in Neive is a serious wine in its own right. The marly soils here give a refined, floral style of Nebbiolo, and at 18 months in large Slavonian oak the fruit is given a long, gentle maturing. 2020 was a very fine vintage in Piedmont and this will reward patience.

Tasting Notes
Barbaresco, coming from the Starderi, Serraboella and a small portion of Albesani vineyards in the village of Neive. The soil is predominantly marly and calcareous, with some clay and sand, giving a wine of exceptional balance and finesse. Fermentation takes place in oak fermenters (“tini”) and ageing in large Slavonian oak casks for up to 18 months. The wine shows beautiful floral notes, accompanied by hints of red fruits. Its pleasantness highlights the more refined character of this territory. The Barbaresco Albesani is a superb expression of Nebbiolo. Grapes are sourced only from the Albesani cru in Neive. There is great ageing potential with complex and elegant aromas of red fruits and notes of tobacco and hay.
