About Mas La Mola
Priorat, Spain
Mas La Mola is a seven-hectare family estate in Priorat, in the hands of the Ferrando family for around a hundred and fifty years. Today the viticulture and winemaking are led by Jordi Masdeu, who came to the estate via the London wine trade, and Alessandro Marchesan. The approach is artisanal in the true sense: a small winery in the village of Poboleda, in the northern part of the appellation, working with Garnacha on the region's characteristic llicorella slate soils.
Priorat Garnacha is a different beast from what the variety produces in the southern Rhône or Sardinia: concentrated, mineral, and structured from the poor, rocky ground. The high-altitude parcels in this part of the appellation give the wines an added freshness and precision that sets them apart.
