Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi has one of the more storied addresses in Burgundy: the château in Santenay that once belonged to Philippe le Hardi, the first of the Valois Dukes of Burgundy. The domaine also holds a real asset in the Clos de la Chaise Dieu, a monopole, meaning they alone own and farm it, which is relatively rare at regional level in Burgundy.

Chardonnay from the Clos has more depth and character than you would expect from regional-level Burgundy. Provenance matters here. One owner farms the whole site and makes the wine from it, and that is what you are tasting.
