Wines from Burgenland

Burgenland runs along Austria's eastern border with Hungary, around the shallow, reedy Lake Neusiedl. It is red wine country by Austrian standards, and above all it is home to some of the greatest sweet wines on the planet, thanks to the mists that roll off the lake each autumn. A region every lover of dessert wine should know.

About Burgenland

Burgenland, on the Hungarian border, is where Austria gets warm. Reds from Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt do well here, but its real claim is sweet wine: the shallow Neusiedlersee generates the autumn mists that make botrytis reliable.

The results stand comparison with far more famous sweet wines, at a fraction of the noise and the price.
