About Mount Pleasant
Hunter Valley, Australia
Mount Pleasant was founded in 1921 and built its reputation under Maurice O'Shea, one of the great figures of Australian wine history, who spent decades farming the Hunter Valley's distinctive red clay soils and making Shiraz of a quite different character from those produced elsewhere in the country.
The estate's historical plantings include vineyards now well over a century old. Hunter Valley Shiraz from old vines like these is a singular thing: medium-bodied, earthy and savoury rather than rich and sweet, with a longevity that can surprise people used to more immediately generous styles. This is the classic end of Australian Shiraz.
