The Next Hundred Years Riesling 2021
£37.95
Why Mark chose this
Great Southern Riesling from the Frankland River sub-region is one of the most age-worthy whites Australia makes, and this is a serious example. Ironstone gravel soils at 200 metres, wild fermentation, time on lees in old French oak, and then a further six months to integrate before bottling: it's made with real care and it shows. Dry, stony and complex with a long future ahead of it.

Tasting Notes
From the Powderbark Ridge vineyard in Frankland River, which lies at 200m and has soils of ironstone gravel. Fruit was picked in the cool of night in early March 2021, gently crushed, pressed and allowed to settle. Only the first press, pristine free run juice was then racked to seasoned French oak barriques. Wild fermentation was encouraged. The wine was unsulphured and left on yeast lees until November 2021, then sulphured and blended with 15% un-oaked Riesling, stabilised, filtered and bottled at the winery. Pale straw yellow in colour, aromatics of citrus blossom and grapefruit are followed with essence of tangerine and guava, flavours are initially fruit-driven and concentrated and but evolving to mineral with a very long finish.
