Mount Horrocks

Mount Horrocks is run by Stephanie Toole from her base in Auburn in the Clare Valley, and she is best known for the Cordon Cut Riesling, one of Australia's most distinctive sweet wines. The method involves cutting the vine canes when the grapes are ripe, leaving the bunches to concentrate and dry naturally on the vine before harvest, which takes considerable nerve and good timing.

The result is intensely flavoured and rich, with the grape's natural acidity keeping it from being cloying. The estate also produces dry Riesling and other Clare Valley styles, all made with the same attention to detail and sense of place. Stephanie Toole has been refining her approach for many years, and Mount Horrocks stands as a genuine Australian original.
