Mas de Daumas Gassac

Mas de Daumas Gassac occupies a singular place in French wine. When Aime Guibert planted his estate near Aniane in the Languedoc in the 1970s, the region had no particular reputation for serious wine. He consulted with the Bordeaux geologist Henri Enjalbert, found his soils unusual and striking, and proceeded to plant Cabernet Sauvignon along with an extraordinary range of other varieties, including Viognier, Petit Manseng, and many more.

The result is a wine that belongs to no appellation category anyone had thought of before. The red is one of the Languedoc's genuine classics, deep and complex, built to age. The white is equally unusual and rewarding. This is one of the wines that proved southern France could produce something truly great.
