First Fleet

First Fleet wines carry the South Eastern Australia label. This is the broad geographical indication that covers the wine regions of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania and parts of South Australia and Queensland. It lets a winemaker blend grapes from vineyards hundreds of miles apart and pick fruit from wherever the season has been kindest, and it sits behind many of the Australian wines that British drinkers know best.

The name looks back to the First Fleet, the eleven ships that sailed from Portsmouth in 1787 and reached Botany Bay in January 1788, where Australia's modern story began.
