About Edetaria

Terra Alta, Spain

Edetaria is a small estate in Terra Alta, a high-altitude DO in inland Catalonia that sits southwest of Priorat and works with similarly old-fashioned vine material. The estate focuses on Garnacha Blanca grown on fossilised sand dune soils called panal, an unusual soil type that limits yield and concentrates what the vines do produce. The vines for their white wines are around sixty years old.

The whites are fermented and aged in large French oak barrels, which gives them a textural richness that sets them apart from lighter white wines in this price range. Garnacha Blanca from old vines and extreme terroir is worth knowing about if you are interested in Spain beyond the obvious regions.
