Meraviglia

Meraviglia is a Bolgheri estate working with Cabernet Franc, a variety that has found an unexpected home on the Tuscan coast. Bolgheri is better known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Sassicaia mould, but the cooler, more aromatic character of Cabernet Franc suits the coastal climate here, with its fresh sea breezes and volcanic soils.

The wines show the mineral, herb-edged freshness that distinguishes this style from heavier inland expressions: bright, food-friendly and with a savouriness on the finish that comes from the terroir. A producer worth watching as Bolgheri continues to diversify beyond its founding varieties.
