Château Moulin Riche

Château Moulin Riche is a Saint-Julien property owned by the Cuvelier family, who also own the classified Château Léoville Poyferré. For much of the twentieth century it was used as Léoville Poyferré's second wine, and since the 2009 vintage it has been made as an estate wine in its own right. It draws on fruit from some well-positioned vineyards in the commune and is vinified with genuine care, making it one of the more reliable under-the-radar options in an appellation better known for much higher prices.

The style is classically Médoc: firm Cabernet Sauvignon structure, restrained fruit and the kind of cedar and tobacco notes that develop with a few years in bottle. It is a proper Saint-Julien at a price that reflects where Moulin Riche sits in the hierarchy, not where its neighbours do.
