About Chateau De Chambert
Cahors, France
Château de Chambert sits high on the limestone plateau west of Cahors, the part of the appellation known as the causse, which many consider its finest ground. Philippe Lejeune bought the estate in 2007 and, with his wife, the Master of Wine Lin Liu, has turned it into the largest organic and biodynamic property in Cahors, certified in 2012 and 2015 respectively.
Around 45 hectares are planted, mostly with Malbec, and in recent years the winemaking has moved towards large oak foudres rather than heavy new barrels, keeping the fruit fragrant and the limestone character clear. Cahors is where Malbec started, long before Argentina took it up, and Chambert makes a persuasive case for the original.
