About Ballot Millot & Fils
Burgundy, France
The Ballot and Millot families began buying vineyards in Meursault in the mid seventeenth century, and sixteen generations later the domaine is still in family hands. Charles Ballot took over from his father Philippe in 2000 and has quietly raised the bar ever since, cutting yields and moving the vineyards away from chemical treatments.
The estate farms around ten hectares, most of it in Meursault itself, with premier cru parcels in Perrières, Genevrières and Charmes. Charles avoids bâtonnage, and the style is chiselled and mineral rather than rich and buttery. Our bottle comes from Les Criots, a village lieu-dit on hard, rocky soils below Santenots, and it shows the house at its most precise.
