Verdicchio is one of central Italy's most interesting white grapes, capable of real depth and longevity when given the right treatment, and Plenio is Umani Ronchi's aged version: eighteen months of maturation before release, which gives it a weight and complexity well beyond most Italian whites. The Marche coast doesn't get the attention of Burgundy or the Alto Adige, but wines like this deserve to be better known.
