White
Franz Haas, ‘Lepus’ Pinot Bianco 2024
From £27.95
Why Mark chose this
Franz Haas was a beloved figure in Alto Adige, and Lepus was his signature white. Pinot Bianco from here is something quite different from other Italian whites: mountain-grown at altitude, with a richness to the stone fruit that doesn't sacrifice freshness, and a roundness that makes it very easy to like. It's one of those bottles that works equally well as an aperitif or through a meal. Franz died in 2022, but his family continue the work, and the quality remains high.

Tasting Notes
The Haas family has been growing grapes in Montagna, within the province of Bolzano, for generations. However, it was only with Franz, who died prematurely in 2022, that they began to produce and bottle quality wines. Franz studied at Geisenheim in Germany before working as a broker of Italian wines in the German market. After several years, he took over the running of the family business. This wine is straw yellow in colour. Its fruity, spicy aromas are reminiscent of ripe apples, wild flowers and fresh bread crust. Strong yet elegant in structure, this Pinot Bianco has well-balanced acidity and is framed by a sweet, round richness and great length.
