About Cantine Del Notaio
Basilicata, Italy
Cantine del Notaio was founded in 1998 by Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti, an agronomist whose family has grown vines in the Vulture area of Basilicata for seven generations. The name honours his father, a notary, and the wines are all named after notarial documents: L'Atto is the deed, Il Sigillo the seal.
Everything here is built on Aglianico del Vulture, grown on the volcanic soils of Monte Vulture, and the wines age in natural caves cut into the tufo rock, some dating back to the 1600s. Aglianico is one of southern Italy's great red grapes, dark and firm with serious ageing potential. We stock L'Atto for everyday drinking and Il Sigillo, a deeper wine for keeping.
