Donnhoff Roxheimer Hollenpfad Riesling Trocken 2020
£44.95
Why Mark chose this
Dönnhoff is one of Germany's greatest Riesling producers, and the Höllenpfad site on red sandstone in the Nahe is a personal favourite. This is a dry Riesling with real intensity, ripe apple and a stony, crystalline quality on the palate. It's got 94 points from Robert Parker, though that's almost beside the point when the wine speaks so clearly for itself. German dry Riesling is one of the best-value fine wine categories anywhere, and this is a very strong example.

Tasting Notes
From an open, south-facing vineyard on red sandstone, the 2020 Roxheimer Höllenpfad Riesling trocken is pure but ripe and intense on the nose that reveals ripe and stewed apple aromas with a fine phenolic spiciness and reductive richness. Juicy-piquant and salty-crystalline on the palate, this is an intense yet very elegant and still slightly astringent dry Riesling with fine tannic grip and good tension. 12.5% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in July 2021. 94 Stephan Reinhardt, RobertParker.com, September 2021
