Mandrarossa

Mandrarossa is the premium label of Cantine Settesoli, the growers' co-operative at Menfi on Sicily's south-west coast that has been part of village life there since 1958. The label was launched in 1999 after twenty years spent studying the co-operative's terroirs, and it draws on around five hundred hectares of the best sites, farmed by some hundred and sixty member families.

The vineyards run between the sea and the hills, with intense sunshine tempered by sea breezes. We stock three of their wines, a Nero d'Avola, a Frappato and a Grillo, and together they make a very good introduction to Sicily's own grapes: honest, characterful drinking at everyday prices.
