Dominus Estate

Dominus is the Napa Valley estate of Christian Moueix, of the Bordeaux family long associated with Pétrus in Pomerol. He came to Napa in 1982 through a partnership with the daughters of John Daniel Jr. and became sole owner in 1995, naming the property Dominus, Latin for lord of the estate.

The vineyard is Napanook in Yountville, a historic site where George Yount planted the valley's first vines in 1836, farmed organically with certification since 2021. The winery itself is worth a mention: a long, low building of local stone held in wire gabions, designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Three wines are made here, Dominus itself, its second wine Napanook and a more approachable bottling called Othello, and Dominus stands among California's greatest Cabernet-based reds.
