Codici Masserie

Codici Masserie is a Puglian producer working with Primitivo, the full-bodied red grape that thrives in the deep south of Italy, where the summers are long and hot and the soils are old. Primitivo is the same variety as Zinfandel, and in the hands of a careful producer it can be rich and spicy without becoming overblown.

The wines are straightforward and honest: dark fruit, a touch of spice, rounded tannins, and a soft finish. This is the kind of wine that works well with everyday food without asking much of you, and at the price it is hard to argue with.
