Trouchard Carneros Chardonnay 2021

Tasting Notes

The vineyards for this Chardonnay are located throughout the southern part of the Truchard Estate. These sites benefit from the various marine soils, gently sloped terrain, and cooler conditions that make the Carneros region ideal for growing Chardonnay. They produce aromatic wines with tropical fruit characteristics and a unique spicy element. The vines are between 25 and 47 years old, resulting in excellent concentration. After a second record-dry winter in a row, the 2021 growing season started with an early bud break. In spring, the drought-stricken vines struggled to grow and set a very light crop consisting of small bunches and berries, meaning yields were down by nearly 50%. Moderate conditions throughout summer allowed this fruit to ripen easily and produced wines that are concentrated and intense. On the nose, this wine displays aromas of pineapple, quince and honeysuckle, with hints of nutmeg and toast. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with flavours of green apple, pear, and lemon zest. Crisp acidity and a hint of salinity are balanced by notes of toasted spices on the finish.
