Why Mark chose this case

This selection of wines works well with the activities of Christmas Day.

The Rotari is a perfect aperitif to welcome your guests.

The Rkatsiteli and the Grillo are both flavoursome white wines that will drink on their own or go with fish starters and the white meat of the Turkey.

The Soto Manrique is also good with the Turkey if your guests prefer a red, the Quercus is good with a more robust red meat like Beef.

Finally the Port is perfect lightly chilled with Chocolate dessert or Blue Cheese to finish your celebration.

What’s in the case

  • Sparkling

Rotari Cuvée 28+ Metodo Classico Brut NV

    Italy · Trentino · Chardonnay

Fresh and toasty with apple, cream and a fine persistent mousse

Italian sparkling wine made by the traditional method in Trentino, where the altitude keeps things fresh and precise. The Cuvée 28+ spends over 28 months on the lees before disgorgement, which gives it a toasty depth you don't always find at this price. It's a genuinely good alternative to Champagne for everyday occasions, and at under twenty pounds it's hard to fault.

    Food match

Works well as an aperitif, or with smoked salmon, light canapes and soft cheese.

  • White

    Tbilvino Rkatsiteli 2024

    Georgia · Kakheti · Rkatsiteli

Once, Tbilvino was the largest wine company in the Soviet Union. Much has changed since the fall of the Iron Curtain. In the early 90's by the entrepreneurial brothers Giorgi and Zura Margvelashvili bought the winery with the help from the World Bank. They had very different plans: to give the wines their typical Georgian identity back and to produce quality instead of quantity.

    Food match

Pairs well with aged cheese, honey, and fresh fruit, making it an excellent choice for a cheese board. It also complements seafood dishes like grilled shrimp and lemon-garlic fish

  • White

    Mandrarossa, Grillo 2025

    Italy · Sicily · Grillo

    Light and fresh.

The Mandrarossa wines hail from a selection of the best sites within Cantine Settesoli’s 6,000 hectares of vineyard in southwestern Sicily, planted with 32 grape varieties. The vineyards are split between the cooperative's 2,000 members and cover the area around Selinunte, the hauntingly beautiful ruins of a Greek town founded 2,600 years ago. Cantine Settesoli helps support the restoration of this archaeological site.

    Food match

Pairs well with light fish or white meat dishes; keep flavours delicate so the wine complements rather than competes.

  • Red

    Quercus Cabernet / Merlot 2023

Slovenia · Goriska Brda · Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

Quercus is one of the leading modern producers of Slovenia. I like their confident, modern approach, and customers keen to explore contemporary Slovenian wine will find these bottles a fine, straightforward introduction.

    Food match

Pairs well with hearty meat dishes such as steak, lamb chops and roast beef.

  • Red

Soto Manrique La Vina De Ayer Garnacha 2021

Spain · Sierra de Gredos · Garnacha

Medium-full, savoury and earthy, with dark red and purple fruit, baking spice and slate

La Viña de Ayer comes from organically farmed, high-altitude Garnacha on slate soils in the Sierra de Gredos, wild-fermented in concrete and aged a year in barrel. This is the mountain style of Garnacha that has been getting a lot of attention in recent years for good reason, it has structure and freshness alongside the fruit, quite different from the bigger, warmer styles of the south. A genuinely interesting bottle.

    Food match

Roast lamb, wood-fired chicken, lentil dishes and aged manchego.

  • Fortified

    Ferreira Tawny Port

Portugal · Douro · Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela.

Founded in 1751, Ferreira is the only Port house to have stayed in Portuguese hands since its inception. Today, award-winning fortified winemaker Luís Sottomayor continues Ferreira’s legacy, making critically acclaimed Ports that rank among Portugal’s greatest wines.

    Food match

Tawny Ports like those from Ferreira pair beautifully with aged hard cheeses such as Manchego or mature Cheddar, nutty desserts like pecan pie or almond biscotti, and caramel-rich sweets such as crème brûlée or caramel ice cream.
